Surilana is the home of Australia’s largest and most established suri herd. Ian and Angela Preuss run a herd of over 500 suris in an array of colours on their property in the Strathbogie Ranges in Victoria. Suris are the rarer of the two breeds of alpacas and represent only 10% of the Australian national herd.
SURILANA WINS NATIONAL SUPREME SURI FOR THE THIRD SUCCESSIVE YEAR
Surilana is Australia’s most successful suri stud and is the breeder of the 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008 National Supreme Suri Champions. The hallmark of Surilana’s suris is their amazing lustre and their extreme density. Surilana not only breeds high quality white suris, but also an array of beautiful coloured suris, including fawns, browns, blacks and greys. It is pleasing that the coloured suris are now achieving the superb qualities of the white suris. Surilana is aiming to breed suris in all colours with excellent density and dazzling lustre.
Surilana has been involved with embryo transfer for the last few years. With embryo transfer, they are able to replicate their best females to breed more superior progeny than would be normally possible. Surilana is very fortunate to have a group of Accoyo and Allianza males and females in their herd. It is the combination of all the Surilana genetics which are producing the superior results.
Surilana has sourced stock from Peru over a few trips over recent years, including a 5 week trip to Peru’s altiplano in 2004, where a large group of white and coloured suris were sourced. The progeny of these suris are now proving themselves in the Australian showring.
Ian and Angela are proud to now release some of their best stock and genetics to the rest of the world. Having Surilana genetics in their herds will be a huge advantage to overseas suri breeders. Pure Accoyo stock, not released to Australian breeders are also available to overseas breeders.
Surilana invites you to breed your own champions with the superior Surilana genetics.
Ron and Dianne Condon established Shanbrooke Stud 18 years ago. From their first day in the industry, their aim was to breed the highest quality huacayas.
Their criteria for selection has always been to only select the elite quality stock. Shanbrooke’s vision from the start was to breed fine, dense, lustrous fleece onto a well-balanced frame, and eventually have the whole herd look like peas in a pod. They have found in all their travels around the world that the bloodlines of Accoyo and Alianza, breed on well, and have based their breeding on these lines.
Shanbrooke is one of the most successful studs in Australia, with their elite stud animals bringing top prices at auctions and privately around the world. Shanbrooke-bred alpacas have been shown around Australia and have taken out Championship ribbons at all major shows. This year they were awarded the Australian National Supreme Huacaya and they have been awarded the “Most Successful Exhibitor” award at the last 3 years Royal Shows.
Shanbrooke places high emphasis on their breeding females. Ron and Dianne have found that, the top stud females mated to the top stud males produce their extremely successful show team every year and their highest-priced progeny. They have also found that their progeny continue to breed high quality animals.
The alpacas which they sell from these strong genetic lines have continued to breed on, and do well for their new owners in breeding and at shows. Ron and Dianne take great pleasure in seeing the success which the new owners achieve when they have purchased their stock.
Shanbrooke, run around 200 animals on farm. This includes some high quality agisted animals, which are based on similar bloodlines. Although small in number, these agisted animals have achieved Championships and placings at major shows in competition with some of the leading studs. By encouraging clients to purchase top stock from the start, and then to use Shanbrooke’s elite males, they have achieved success.
Over the past 15 years Ron and Dianne have travelled to America, Germany, Italy, Ireland, England, Chile and Peru in our search for the best alpacas that they could find. Their hard work and dedication to the industry is demonstrated in their Superior stock.
Dianne is one of Australia's most experienced alpaca judges and has travelled the world to enhance her skills and knowledge, and to keep at the fore-front of development. She is also an international judge and has judged in Europe, England and Peru.
Shanbrooke is able to offer overseas breeders their Supreme winning genetics, so that they can then go on to breed their own champions.
Greenwood Alpaca Stud was established some 12 years ago in the “High Country”, 2 hours north east of Melbourne @ Mansfield, Australia. The vision from the beginning was to breed Huacayas in beautiful GREY and BLACK.
Our initial vision involved the challenge of improving the “coloured” fleece to bring it in line with what the industry has come to call the WOW factor!
Greenwood has continually advanced its breeding programme by dedicated mating choices and by sourcing out the best coloured herd sires in Australia and using them over genetically strong grey or black females.
Greenwood shows the results by consistently producing alpacas that have a strong, well balanced frame, density combined with fine crimpy fleece of commercial length and value. When the fleece is opened it is bright and healthy ….we are breeding the WOW factor in GREY and BLACK. In this quest for Grey and Black we sometimes have available other colours just as beautiful.
Greenwood has committed to remaining a small herd owner.
At the Nationals in 2007 we entered three alpaca that were breed by Greenwood. The team placed 1st Greenwood Sharamar (black), 2nd Greenwood GreyLord (light grey) and 3rd Greenwood Magician (medium Grey). This team also won ribbons during the year with Greylord winning a Reserve Championship. A very good result from only 20 breeding females and a show team of three.
Our “Team Greenwood” this year consisted of 4 alpaca, Greenwood Bentley, Ignition, Louie and Isadorable. They were shown @ 9 shows in NSW and won a total of 34 ribbons. Including Royals and at National level.
Greenwood is happy to offer some of our selected stock to alpaca enthusiasts overseas who love colour and are looking to succeed.
